Giving the Rohingya a screen and a script
Mohammed Noor was born in Makkah, Saudi Arabia, to a Rohingya refugee family originally from Arakan (Rakhine State), Myanmar. Growing up stateless outside his ancestral homeland, he dedicated his life to amplifying Rohingya voices worldwide through media, technology, and advocacy.
He founded Rohingya Vision (RVision), the world’s first Rohingya satellite television channel and digital news platform. RVision serves millions in the Rohingya diaspora by providing news, education, and cultural programming from a Rohingya perspective.
Noor also established the Rohingya Football Club (RFC), a national team representing Rohingya youth internationally. RFC promotes unity, pride, and global visibility for Rohingya identity through sports.
He played a key role in developing Rohingya language technology, leading initiatives to digitize Rohingya alphabets, create fonts, and secure the Rohingya script’s inclusion in the Unicode standard in 2018. This work enables Rohingya language use across computers and smartphones, helping preserve and teach their culture.
Additionally, Noor co-founded the Rohingya Genocide Archive, which documents atrocities committed against Rohingya civilians, aiding accountability efforts worldwide.
His memoir, "Born to Struggle" (2019), shares his personal journey as a Rohingya refugee and leader of digital activism.
